The Benefits Of A Full Service Vision Center

Posted on

If you currently see an eye doctor (optometrist) in one location and buy your prescription eyewear in another, you are really doing this all wrong. A full service vision center is a far better option. There are a number of benefits for tossing out your old way of getting glasses, contacts, and accessories and moving to a full service vision center.

From the Exam to Picking out Glasses

When you come in for an exam in this type of vision center, you go directly from your eye appointment to picking out glasses. They have wall-to-wall shelves of eyeglass frames and several opticians who can help you pick out glasses. Once you have selected the frames you want, the optician can grind the glass and assemble the glasses right there in the center. You can usually pick them up anywhere from an hour to a day later.

Contact Lens Fitting Is Part of Your Exam

If you want contact lenses, your new optometrist does both the eye exam and the contact lens fitting in the same appointment. You do not have to have an eye exam and come back another day for a lens fitting. The optometrist measures your eyes, pulls the sample lenses that most closely fit your prescription and the dimensions of your eyes, and has you try the samples on to make sure they fit and that you can see clearly. You buy as many boxes of lenses as you want right there and walk out the same day with your contacts.

Tons of Vision Accessories

It is not a full service vision center if there are not hundreds of vision-related accessories. The center typically has contact lens cases, solutions, eye drops for all different eye maladies and needs, clip-on sunglasses, eyeglass cords to keep your eyeglasses on your face or around your neck, etc., etc. You can shop for cute accessories for your eyeglasses while you shop for new eyeglasses or contacts!

Billing Is Also Managed in-House

Many optometrists typically outsource their billing to a medical billing specialist. However, in full service vision centers, they have their own billing department. They automatically figure out what your insurance will cover, then ask for payment for the rest on the day of your appointment. They can even estimate what your portion will be, and you can request this quote up to a week in advance of your appointment. That way, you can budget ahead, pay on the day of your appointment, and walk out knowing that you do not owe your new eye doctor anything.
